Killahora Orchards
Logo Identity
Killahora Orchards is founded on an estate near Cork in Ireland, that dates back to 1750. It is a family business that grows around 148 varieties of rare apples and 48 varieties of Perry pear. After launching the Rare Apple Cider, Ice Wine and Pom'O and receiving a number of awards, they felt it was time to evolve their logo from a typographic word mark to include an icon that would give a sense of providence, history, quality and authenticity to the brand.
I was commissioned to design an icon to pair with the word mark to created a new logo lockup which could be used on bottle labels, the website and all their marketing materials. I got out my pens and brushes and sketched up around 10 initial concepts, which were then distilled it to four clear routes for presentation. The 'Tree of Life' concept which represents the orchards and their rare produce, rooted firmly in the ancient land was the clear favourite as it embodied all their values into one beautiful symbol.
